Butt clapping or shaking is a hip hop dance move that literally causes the back of the dancer to make a clapping sound. Typically this is seen in rap videos and clubs that gentlemen go to. However, these days, the art of butt clapping has become so common that suburban kids and college kids want to master it.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Jump up and down

Step 1. Stand with your feet together
Your feet should be in a normal position with your feet under your hips, but less than shoulder-width apart. Take a wider stance if necessary to feel balanced. However, the rule is that the feet are together.

Step 2. Stand on the soles of your feet
Slowly begin to get up on the balls of your feet and shift your weight to the soles of your feet. If you don't have a good balance or if you feel like you are going to fall, then take this opportunity to take a slightly wider position. However, if balance is not an issue, keep your feet together.

Step 3. Shake yourself up and down
When you have stabilized on the balls of your feet, begin to jerk up and down quickly. Don't squeeze your buttocks. You should feel them start clapping.
- This method works best for people who already have a large butt.
- Try to put your hands against the wall for support. Leaning toward the wall will allow you to shake yourself faster without feeling like you will fall.
- To do a variation on this move, you can squat with your feet shoulder width apart and flex your torso to around 45 degrees. Then rock up and down on the soles of your feet.
- Practice a lot. It sounds simple, but many people still have problems with this movement and are not able to do it.
Method 2 of 3: Bend Your Knees

Step 1. Stand with your feet together
Like before, your feet don't have to be next to each other. Stand in a normal position, with your feet under your hips and less than shoulder-width apart. If you feel more comfortable, move your feet closer together so that there is only 2.54 centimeters (1 inch) or 5.08 centimeters (2 inches) of space between your feet.
If you will be bringing your feet together, lean against a wall or chair for extra support

Step 2. Stand on the soles of your feet
Slowly begin to get up on the balls of your feet and shift your weight to the soles of your feet. Use a wall or chair to help you balance if necessary. Similarly, you can take a slightly wider stance to help you balance yourself.

Step 3. Bend your knees slightly
Then straighten them. Then flex them again and straighten them again. Do it slowly at first. Then move much faster, as much as you can. When you start to move faster, you will want to limit the range of motion so that you don't look like you're bending your knees.
- In short, the movements of bending the knees will not be as great as before. Rock lightly on the balls of your feet as you bend your knees. The two movements together will help make your butt clap. You should hear a clapping sound when you have done it correctly.
- This method is easier for people who already have a large butt, as this helps with the butt shaking.
Method 3 of 3: Arch Your Back

Step 1. Stand with your feet together
Similar to the other methods, your feet may be in a normal position but less than shoulder-width apart. However, if you feel more comfortable, take a slightly wider position. In this case, you could have 4 inches (10.16 centimeters) or 5 inches (12.7 centimeters) of space between your feet.

Step 2. Get up on the balls of your feet
Use your calf and thigh muscles to lift yourself up on the balls of your feet. In this way, shift your weight to the area of your toes and balance yourself. Hold onto a wall or chair to help balance yourself if necessary.

Step 3. Arch your back
Your chest should stick out as you arch your back. If it helps, think about curling your back that looks like the letter "C". Stand in front of a mirror and settle back to make sure you don't look uncomfortable. Your movements should look natural.

Step 4. Vigorously roll your hips down
Then move them up. Keep shaking yourself as you do. After moving your hips down, your hips should come almost naturally from momentum. Then, repeat the movements of bringing the pelvis down and up. Shake off as fast as you can, and you should hear your buttocks clapping. You'll know you're doing it right when your buttocks make the sound of clapping.
- Use your body weight and slightly bend your knees to help you create this shaking motion. Slightly bend your knees when you move your pelvis down.
- The arch in your back should help you be aware of turning your pelvis, rather than just using your legs.
Advice
- To make the true clapping sound, keep your legs together and squat just a little. When you get up, be sure to come back down in the same position. It will take a bit of force, but it will be heard.
- If you don't have a big butt, it will take significant time and practice to perfect your butt clapping. Smaller butts may not be able to cause the clapping sound, but a shake or small butt sound can be achieved.
- If you have a bigger butt, it may be easier for you to clap your butt.
