Duck costumes are perfect for Halloween and parties! To transform into a duck, make a mask, wear yellow clothes, glue feather boas to it to make them look like wings, and make felt duck feet. This costume is easy for kids to make, requires no sewing, and only takes about an hour to finish.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Make a mask

Step 1. Cut the bottom third of a yellow cardboard plate
Choose a plate that is roughly the size of your face. Use a sharp pair of scissors to cut across the bottom of the plate in a straight line. If you have trouble cutting straight, use a ruler to draw a straight line and then cut along it.
- Avoid using plastic plates, as later on, you will need to use hot glue and this will cause the material to melt.
- Purchase cardboard plates at a home or party supply store.

Step 2. Use a craft knife and cut holes in the plate for the eyes
Put it on your face to help you figure out where the holes should be. Then, place the mask on a cutting board and cut 2 circles that are about 1.2 inches (3 cm) wide and 1.2 inches (3 cm) from each other.
- Always ask an adult to help you when using a craft knife to avoid cuts.
- Once you have made the cuts, hold the mask in front of your face to verify that they are in the correct place. If necessary, drill slightly larger holes so that you can see through them easily.

Step 3. Cut a 6-inch spike out of orange or black construction paper
Draw a pickaxe on a piece of construction paper. A simple option for the beak is the oval shape. Then use scissors to cut it out. If you are not confident enough to draw a duckbill, print a pattern from the internet.
If you don't have cardboard, use paper. It's not that hard, but it will do

Step 4. Glue the spout to the bottom of the cardboard plate with a hot glue gun
Apply a thin line of hot glue to the top 1/4 inch (centimeter) of the spout. Then carefully place it on the bottom of the cardboard plate where you cut the line.
- Ask an adult to help you use a hot glue gun to prevent burns.
- Lay a sheet of paper on the bottom when you use the hot glue to prevent it from accidentally sticking to the floor or table.

Step 5. Attach a wooden dowel to the right back of the platter
The wand acts with a grip so that you can hold the mask on your face. Use a hot glue gun to apply it to the top half of the stick. Then, place the glued section vertically on the back of the plate.
- Let the hot glue dry for 1 hour before moving or wearing the mask.
- For this mask, a rod of any length will do. Most of these rods from craft stores are about 12 inches (30 cm), which is an excellent length.
Method 2 of 3: Assembling the Duck's Body

Step 1. Get orange or yellow leggings to create the bottom half of the duck
This is an easy way to color the lower half of the body. Leggings that are single-colored or have feather patterns work best as they look more realistic than multi-colored leggings. If you don't have leggings, wear pants or a skirt.
If you want to be a different colored duck or want to impersonate a cartoon one, feel free to wear different colored leggings

Step 2. Use a yellow sweatshirt to create the top half of the duck
A sweatshirt is an ideal option because it covers the back of your head as well as your upper body. Sweatshirts with sleeves are the best option, as they allow feathers to be glued to create wings.
Buy a yellow sweatshirt online or at a clothing store

Step 3. Glue the feather boas onto the sleeves of the sweatshirt to make them look like wings
This will help the upper body look feathery like a duck. Take off your sweatshirt and spread it out on the floor. Place the feathers on the arms and waist in the pattern you want. Next, apply hot glue to one side of the boas carefully and place them on the pendant.
- You will need at least 4 boas to make the body look full of feathers.
- If there is any part of the boa that is hanging off the edge of the garment, simply cut it off with scissors.
- Let the hot glue dry for 1 hour before wearing the hoodie.
Method 3 of 3: Create the Duck Feet

Step 1. Place a black or orange piece of felt over each of your shoes
Choose a piece of felt that is larger than they are. Lay them on the ground and then put the felt on top. Sneakers and cloth shoes work well for this task. Don't wear sandals, as the felt won't stick to them long enough.
Orange or black felt works best if you're trying to create a realistic-looking duck. Otherwise, go for a different color

Step 2. Cut a hole over the opening of the shoe
Use a permanent marker to make a mark where the opening of the shoe is. Then, remove the felt from the shoes and use scissors to cut and dislodge the hole. To make the initial cut, insert the scissors through the middle of the hole you drew to create an opening and start cutting.
Repeat this process with each piece of felt

Step 3. Uniform the felt around the shoe and cut around the base
Place the felt back over the shoe and make sure the hole you cut is over the opening of the foot. Next, wrap the felt around the shoes and use scissors to cut off any excess fabric that is left hanging underneath the shoes.
Fabric scissors work best for this task as they are quite sharp

Step 4. Cut webbed feet from the end of the felt
Take the felt out of your shoes and draw a webbed shape on the toe of your foot with a permanent marker. If you're not sure what the webbed shape looks like, just draw zigzag lines at the end of the felt. Then cut along the zigzag line with the scissors.
Draw small zigzags to make the feet more visible or make them large to make them look larger

Step 5. Wrap a piece of ribbon around the shoes to secure the felt
Put it over your shoes and then put your feet in them. Lay an 8-inch (20-cm) piece of ribbon or string horizontally above the middle of the shoes, and then knot it under your foot. Cut off any excess string with scissors.
