Catwoman is an excellent costume choice - she's strong, she's sexy, and her outfit is instantly recognizable, regardless of the many interpretations the costume has received over the years. Perhaps the most popular costume to date is Michelle Pfeiffer's feline creation launched to fame in director Tim Burton's Batman Returns, but Halle Berry's sexy Catwoman ensemble and Anne Hathaway's graceful portrayal in The Dark Knight are rising. they are good rivals. Instructions for creating each of these outfits are explained below, as well as including a classic Catwoman makeup tutorial.
Steps
Part 1 of 4: Make Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman Costume
Step 1. Get a black PVC jumpsuit
A sparkly PVC jumpsuit is the foundation of any Catwoman costume, and Michelle Pfeiffer's style is no different. Try to get a jumpsuit that closes in the front, with a high neckline and long sleeves. These types of jumpsuits are available at most Halloween and costume stores, or can be found online or purchased on eBay.
- If you don't have the time or money to buy a PVC jumpsuit, you can put together a similar look with items you have in your closet. Skinny leather pants, wet-look or leather leggings, or even a pair of skinny jeans can be used as pants.
- A fitted black turtleneck sweater can be used as a top.
Step 2. Make white stitched lines on the material
Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman outfit had stitches all over it, so we'll try to recreate that look. First take some white chalk and draw the outline of the stitches you want to create.
- Randomly place them all over the PVC jumpsuit (or pants and top), using a picture of the Catwoman costume from the movie as a reference. Next, take a needle and some white thread and start stitching over the white lines.
- If you're in a rush, you can simply use white chalk to create the stitch effect or paint over the chalk with correction fluid.
Step 3. Buy or make a Catwoman helmet
Perhaps the most important part of Michelle Pfeifer's Catwoman costume is the helmet. A black PVC half mask with cat ears. To get an authentic looking helmet, you might want to buy a replica from Amazon or eBay. These websites offer outfits that include the helmet, gloves, and claws. However, if you're on a budget, you can make your own Catwoman helmet at home. We show you how:
- Grab a pair of old black cotton sweatpants. Make sure the material is a bit stretchy and that you can fit the leg of the pants over your head.
- Trim the bottom of the pants. This piece should be long enough to cover half of your face, reaching just above the tip of your nose. There should also be enough inches of material above your head to make the ears.
- Take a piece of white chalk and draw a white semicircle in the cut section of the material. This is the line that you will cut to form pointed ears on both sides of the mask. Also draw two large eyes on the mask using an image from the movie for reference.
- Take sharp scissors and cut the semicircle along the chalk line. Also cut out the holes for the eyes. Take a needle and some black thread and close the top of the mask by sewing it together. You should now have pointed ears on top of your head. Try on the mask. If it feels too loose on the sides, sew it up to adjust it.
- You can use the mask like this or you can add the same stitches that you put on the jumpsuit. Again use an image of Michelle Pfeiffer's mask for reference.
Step 4. Make claw gloves
To achieve Catwoman-worthy claws, all you need is to find a pair of elbow-length black gloves. If you can get it in shiny material, even better, otherwise any other material will suffice. Take sharp scissors and cut holes at the tip of each finger.
- Get a pack of black false nails. The longer and pointed, the better. Put them on your own nails and then put the gloves on. The pointed ends of the false nails should be poking right through the holes. Ready!
- Of course, it is also possible to buy Catwoman gloves online with her nails already on, but this method gives you the option to remove the gloves and keep the Catwoman style claws!
Step 5. Put on black knee-high boots
To complete the look, you'll need knee-high black boots with sky-high heels. Shine them well before wearing them: Catwoman wouldn't leave the house with scratched shoes!
Part 2 of 4: Make the Halle Berry Costume
Step 1. Get black PVC pants or leggings
The Catwoman played by Halle Berry wore a slightly different look than the other incarnations, so this time you don't need a jumpsuit. For pants, you will need leather or wet-look pants. You can find a suitable pair at a costume or Halloween store.
- While the pants should be tight at the top, the legs should flare out a bit at the bottom. In the movie, Halle Berry's pants are bootcut rather than skinny.
- Take some white chalk and draw jagged lightning bolts along the pant legs, front and back. Next, take a sharp pair of scissors and cut along the lines for a ripped effect.
- Don't be careful when cutting! You better look like you've just been attacked by a horde of angry cats!
Step 2. Get a bra or corset that looks like leather
You must be prepared to show some meat in this costume! If possible, get a PVC or leather-like bra to emulate Halle Berry's extreme lingerie in the movie. If you can't find anything suitable in these materials, silk is the second option.
- And, hey, if you have time before wearing the costume, why don't you try to get a flat stomach? It is the best accessory for this costume!
- If you're not comfortable revealing so much meat, or plan to be outside, a good alternative is to wear a strappy bodysuit instead. Just be sure to add a few scratches and holes to get the feline look!
Step 3. Wrap two black belts around your waist
Halle Berry used a very complicated criss-cross contraption that connected the straps of her bra to her pants. An exact replica of this would be difficult to come by, but you can create a similar effect by wrapping two belts around your waist, crossing them to form an X-shape. Ideally, the belts should be canvas, in black or khaki green, but any type of belt will do.
Step 4. Buy or make the Catwoman mask
Like the Catwoman played by Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry's incarnation of the feline antihero includes a cat-eared half mask. This Catwoman has a matte black detail, without white stitches. The best bet is to buy an exact replica online, but you can make your own mask by following the method explained in Step 3 of the previous section.
Step 5. Wear black open-toe shoes
If you want to be truly faithful to the movie, you should wear black open-toe shoes or boots with a regular-size heel. However, any type of boots or shoes will do, as long as you wear your pant legs over them, rather than tucking them inside.
Step 6. Get a whip and a pair of gloves
The final touches for this Catwoman look are a pair of black leather gloves, elbow length if possible, and a black leather whip. You can find fake whips at Halloween stores or online, or you can make a replica by painting a jump rope black.
Part 3 of 4: Anne Hathaway Costume as Catwoman
Step 1. Get a black jumpsuit
The most recent incarnation of Catwoman was played by Anne Hathway in The Dark Knight Rises. Perhaps the simplest version of Catwoman costumes, but that doesn't take away from the sexy!
- The basis of the costume is a black jumpsuit, with long sleeves and a front closure. If possible, try to get a matte black jumpsuit, but shiny PVC will work as well.
- If you can't get a jumpsuit, black pants or leggings and a front zip turtleneck will do the trick.
Step 2. Wear a wide black belt around your waist
A wide belt should be worn around the waist to mimic Catwoman's tool belt. However, if you can get a real holster, even better!
Step 3. Buy or make a black cat ear mask
The Catwoman played by Anne Hathway, unlike the others, does not wear a helmet, but a simple black mask with her hair loose on her back. In this respect, she is similar to the version of Catwoman played by Julie Newmar in the 1960s series Batman. Any simple black mask (covering only the eyes) will work for this outfit, along with a headband or cat-ear hairpins.
- You can make your own mask out of black felt (an embossed black works great for this costume). Just draw the outline of the mask on the felt piece, carefully cut it out, and put some black elastic on both sides to form a mask.
- To make your own cat ears, cut two triangular pieces out of black construction paper, glue black PVC or felt on both sides, and then attach each ear to an alligator clip.
Step 4. Wear black gloves
Any type of black gloves will work for this costume. Just try to get ones that reach above your elbows.
Step 5. Get thigh high boots
Perhaps the most attractive aspect of this Catwoman costume is the thigh-high black leather boots. If you already have some in your closet, great! If not, you may need to check out some shoe stores or websites to find the perfect pair. The heels should be 10-12 cm long.
Sure, knee-high boots can do the trick. It all depends on how faithful to the movie you want to be with the costume
Step 6. Carry a fake gun
Instead of carrying a whip, the Catwoman played by Anne Hathaway has a gun. The thing is serious. Find a fake black gun at any costume store. If you got a holster, you can take the gun there!
Step 7. Wear straight hair
Unlike the other costumes, in which the hair is tied up or under the mask, this look allows you to wear your hair down. Anne Hathaway's hair was straight, but it had a lot of volume. To achieve a similar effect, apply mousse to wet hair and then blow dry it to straighten it, keeping your head upside down. Remove the hair from the face with the ear headband or bobby pins.
Part 4 of 4: Get Catwoman's Makeup
Step 1. Get the right foundation
To start, apply your favorite foundation, but mix it in with some white face paint first, as Catwoman is usually pale. Apply well, using a dotted brush to create a perfect finish. Secure the base with light translucent powder. Don't wear concealer under your eyes. It is recommended that you have light dark circles.
Step 2. Focus on the eyes
Apply matte taupe eyeshadow to your lids. This will create depth and shadows. Bring the taupe shadow down towards the sides of your nose. Next, apply brown eyeshadow around the lines of your lids. Next, apply dark black shadow to the center of your lids, spreading it outwards.
- Apply the black shadow on the bottom lash with a small angled brush, bringing it right to the corner of your eye. It should look a bit messy.
- Use a cotton swab to spread the shadow on the bottom lash for a hazy, fuzzy effect.
- Line the inner edge of your lower lashes with a black liner. Curl your lashes and then apply mascara generously to the upper and lower lashes.
Step 3. Use a pencil on your eyebrows
Define your brows with an eyebrow pencil and give them an elaborate arch. Apply white eyeliner under the browbone to add depth and apply a matte-toned white eyeshadow to highlight. Seat with brow gel.
Step 4. Put on red lipstick
Line your eyes with a red lip liner, then fill in the lines with your favorite red lipstick. Use a brush to shape it precisely, using a photo of Catwoman for reference. Use concealer to add definition to the outside of your lips. Apply red gloss to the center of your lips, over the lipstick. Your lips should look playful and malevolent.
Advice
- Leave a small margin when you mark the mask on the material, taking into account the hair on the back.
- Thicker material will generally last longer and be more suitable for modifications, as it is less likely to break.
- When stitching on the mask, make sure the eye holes are in the right place before proceeding.
- Yellow or neon yarn looks amazing in nightclubs and can make a very unique costume.
