When you buy your Nook e-book reader, it comes with a limited number of free e-books (not enough for bookworms). Don't worry though, as you can buy more e-books direct from the Barnes & Noble store. Or if you have some e-books stored on your computer, you can copy them to your Nook for easy enjoyment wherever you are.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Upload Nook-Compatible eBooks

Step 1. Connect your Nook to your computer

To do this, take your Nook's data cable, plug it into your Nook's micro USB port, and plug the other end into your computer's USB port.

Nook generally supports e-book files in ePub, CBZ, and PDF. Uploading those files to your reader requires only a basic copying process

Step 2. Access your Nook's file storage on your computer

The procedure to do this will vary slightly depending on whether you are using Windows or Mac.

  • For Windows computers, open "My Computer" from the desktop. Click "Removable Disk" in the menu panel on the left of the "My Computer" window to access the contents of your Nook and open it in a separate window.
  • For Mac computers, a Nook shortcut icon will appear on the desktop once the devices connect. Double click on this icon to access your Nook and open its contents in a new window.

Step 1. Download Caliber

You can use other software to load e-books that do not have extensions compatible with the Nook. Caliber is one of these applications. It is a free program that works as an e-book manager and that you can use to transfer and organize e-books on your reader.

Get Caliber by heading to the website. On the main page, click the blue "Download Caliber" button and once the installer has finished downloading, double-click the installer file to install the program on your computer

Then, click the "Send to device" button on the menu bar. Caliber will start copying and once the process is complete, the loading animation in the lower right corner of the window will stop.

Once the charging animation stops, you can disconnect the Nook from the computer and start reading the e-books

Advice

  • The e-books you purchased from Barnes & Nobles are always in a Nook-compatible format and no conversion is required for you to upload these files to your reader.
  • Caliber creates a converted copy of the unsupported file that you want to upload to Nook. It does not delete or change the original file.
