GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a free, open source alternative to Photoshop that is available for all operating systems. You can download GIMP from the developers website. Installing GIMP is very similar to installing most other programs.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Windows

Step 1. Download the GIMP installer
You can download it for free from gimp.org/downloads.
Click the "This Link" link to download the file. Clicking the "Download GIMP" link will download GIMP using BitTorrent

Step 2. Run the GIMP installer
You can find it in the location where you saved it, usually in the Downloads / My Downloads folder.

Step 3. Follow the instructions to install GIMP
Most users can leave the settings at the default.

Step 4. Finish the installation
After selecting the file formats, GIMP will install. This may take a few minutes.

Method 2 of 3: OS X

Step 1. Download the GIMP installer
You can download it for free from gimp.org/downloads.
Make sure to download the latest "native development" available

Step 2. Open the DMG file
You can find it in your Downloads folder. You will see the GIMP icon when you open the DMG file.

Step 3. Drag the GIMP icon to your “Applications” folder
Wait a moment while the program copies.

Step 4. Open GIMP from the “Applications” folder
If you get a message that GIMP cannot be opened because you downloaded it from the Internet, read on.

Step 5. Click on the Apple menu and select "System Preferences."

Step 6. Open the option "Security and privacy"
At the bottom of the window you should see a message stating that GIMP was blocked.

Step 7. Click
Open anyway.

Method 3 of 3: Linux

Step 1. Open your package manager
You can download GIMP through your Linux distribution package manager. This tool will allow you to search, download and install new programs to Linux.

Step 2. Search for “GIMP”
It should be the first result that appears in your search.

Step 3. Click the "Install" button
GIMP will download and install automatically.
