In most manual transmission vehicles you can shift without using the clutch. This can be done by matching the revolutions per minute (RPM) of the engine power with the rotational speed of the vehicle's output transmission. Please note that this can only be done if the vehicle is moving, but the clutch should always be used to start the vehicle moving.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: To Increase Speed

Step 1. When the car is in motion and the lever is in gear, take your foot off the gas pedal
This action will release the tension on the transmission. Immediately after this, place the lever in neutral.

Step 2. Push or pull the lever towards the gear you want, applying light pressure
(NOTE: The amount of pressure needed can vary - too much pressure can cause the gearbox to go in prematurely and will force it into gear. If you use too little pressure and the gearbox doesn't go all the way in, it will also force gear).

Step 3. When the RPM of the engine matches the rotational speed of the output drive, the lever should go into gear

Step 4. When the car is running again, you can continue driving
Method 2 of 2: To slow down

Step 1. When the car is in motion, and the current gear is too low to maintain proper course, take your foot off the gas and then release the gear lever

Step 2. Gently press the throttle once to raise the engine RPM to around 2000 to 2500 (that will depend on transmission)

Step 3. When the RPM decreases, push or pull the lever towards the gear you want, applying light pressure
When the RPM of the engine matches the rotational speed of the output transmission, the gear should go in

Step 4. When the car is running again, you can continue driving
Advice
Pay attention to the RPM of the engine, see when you can vary the change (this will depend on the speed). This will help you move the gear lever without using the clutch
Warnings
- When shifting the gear to slow down without using the clutch, make sure the engine RPM drops before putting pressure on the gear. If you apply pressure earlier, the gear will enter prematurely and the gear will be forced.
- Please note that not all transmissions are "light" enough to shift without using the clutch, if you keep trying you can damage the car's transmission. Some heavy duty transmissions tend to damage the gear much faster and it is more difficult to shift without using the clutch. This process is easier on low-resistance transmissions such as those in compact cars, midsize cars, SUVs, and trucks.
- This can ONLY be done when the vehicle is in motion. To start a manual transmission vehicle you must use the clutch.
