BitTorrent is a software program that allows you to download a single file from multiple people at the same time. When downloading a file using BitTorrent, you will also upload those parts of the file that you have already downloaded so that other people can download them as well. The more popular the file, the more people will share it and the faster you can download it. There are several different Bittorrent clients.
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Download and Install a BitTorrent Client
Step 1. Download a torrent client
BitTorrent is the oldest torrent client and it still keeps releasing updates. It works on both Windows and Mac OS X.
Other recently updated and very popular torrent clients are uTorrent, qBittorrent, Deluge, and Vuze
Step 2. Install the torrent client on your computer
Once you have downloaded the torrent client you want to use, open the installation file and follow the instructions in the wizard to install it on your computer.
Part 2 of 2: Find a Movie and Download It Using a BitTorrent Client
Step 1. Use a search engine to find a torrent file for the movie you want to download
In order to use a torrent client, you need a.torrent file. You can use a search engine to search for specific file types. In Google, type filetype: torrent and then type the name of the movie you want to download.

Step 2. Click on one of the links in your search result
Torrent sites have countless pop-up ads that might be inappropriate for children. It is also common for these sites to shut down due to copyright violations and not all links work.
- The search result link could redirect you to a website where you can download the torrent file, or it could directly initiate the file download.
- Torrent websites often specify the number of seeders for each torrent file. Seeders are the people who are currently uploading parts of the torrent file.
Step 3. Open your torrent client
Step 4. Open the torrent file you downloaded
Depending on the torrent client you have, you can sometimes click and drag the torrent file onto the torrent client window to open the file. You can also use the "File" menu to open the torrent file. You can often open the torrent file on your client by double-clicking the torrent file.
Step 5. Start downloading the file
Most torrent clients won't start downloading the file until you start the download manually. Click on the torrent file to select it and then click the button to start the transfer. It is usually a button with a "play" arrow.
- When the file starts to download, you will see how many people you are downloading the file from and how many people you are uploading to. The more people are uploading it (in English this process is known as seeding), the faster it will download.
- When the file has finished downloading, you can continue uploading the file by leaving your torrent client open.
- Movie files can come in many different file formats. Depending on the file format, you may need to download a new video player.
Warnings
- If a movie has only a few seeders, you will most likely have to wait a long time for it to download.
- Downloading a movie is not illegal, but sharing it is. If you upload a movie (if you are a seeder, you could be liable to a lawsuit from the copyright holder of the movie you download.
- If you are caught downloading movies through BitTorrent, you could receive a warning letter from your ISP. In that case, you'd better stop doing it. If you continue, you could put yourself at risk of having your Internet service disconnected and you could also face charges for breach of intellectual property law.
