This wikiHow teaches you how to connect your phone to Alexa via Bluetooth so that it works as a speaker. This is a better option for listening to podcasts (multimedia broadcasts), as Alexa's skills for this type of media are not well developed yet. To pair a device for the first time, you will have to enter the settings. After pairing, you can quickly reconnect with a simple voice command.

Step 1. Activate your phone's Bluetooth
Open the device settings and access the Bluetooth option.
- On Android: open settings
Android7settingsapp , touch Linked devices and slide the switch to the "On" position

Step 2. Make sure the device is discoverable
On some devices, this option is listed as "pairing mode". Most phones are visible after activating Bluetooth.
If you want to connect Bluetooth speakers or a device that does not have a screen, read the manual for how to activate the pairing mode

Step 3. Open the Alexa app
The icon is a light blue speech bubble with a white outline.

Step 4. Touch ☰
It's the three-line icon in the upper-left corner of the screen.

Step 5. Touch Settings
It is the second option from the bottom.

Step 6. Touch the Alexa device
Select the device (such as Echo) that you want to connect to your phone.

Step 7. Touch Bluetooth

Step 8. Tap Pair a new device
It's the big blue button. The app will search for nearby devices.

Step 9. Touch the device name when it appears
In this way, it will connect with your Alexa device.
Once linked, you can connect and disconnect them using voice commands, without using the Alexa application
Method 2 of 2: Connect a device using voice commands

Step 1. Say "Alexa"
Use the command to activate Alexa and it will begin to hear the next command.
The default activation command is "Alexa", but if you have changed it to "Echo," "Amazon" or another, you can use the one you have configured

Step 2. Ask Alexa to connect with your cell phone
Say "Alexa, pair with Bluetooth" and it will connect to the device. It will only recognize the one that you have previously linked through the application.
In the event that there is more than one recognized Bluetooth device, Alexa will try to connect to the one that was last paired

Step 3. Ask Alexa to disconnect from your device
To do this, say "Alexa, disconnect" and it will disconnect from any paired Bluetooth device.
You can also say "unlink" instead of "disconnect."

Step 4. Use the Alexa app if you have trouble connecting your devices
If you have more than one Bluetooth device and cannot connect to one via voice command, use the app to select the correct device.
