How to change the language of Google Home: 9 steps

This wikiHow teaches you how to change the language of a Google Home device with the iPhone or Android app. Language options will depend on your device and location. Once you change the language of Google Home, the assistant will only recognize commands in that language.

Step 1. Open the Google Home application

In the app drawer, tap the Google Home icon of the house with many colors. If you don't have it installed, download it and pair it with your Google Home device.

On Android, you can download Google Home from the Play Store.
On iPhone, you can download Google Home from the App Store.

Step 2. Touch ☰

It's the three-line icon in the upper-left corner. From the left side of the screen, the main menu will open.

Step 3. Tap Devices

On iPhone, it's the first option at the top of the menu. On Android, it's in the second section of options. A page will open with all the Google Home credentials associated with your home network.

Step 4. Touch ⋮ or ⋯ on your Google Home device.

Tap the three dots icon in the upper right corner of the Google Home speaker badge. A small drop-down menu will open.

It's the first option at the top of the drop-down menu.

It's the last option in the "Google Assistant Settings" section, under "Voice Search."

Step 7. Scroll down and tap the Google Home speaker

Tap the speaker's name in the "Devices" section of the settings page.

On Android, it is the penultimate option towards the bottom of the page. On iPhone, it is the third option from the top of the page.

Step 9. Select another language

The language of the Google Assistant voice will be changed automatically on all devices. The other available language options may vary by device and regional location.

Once you make the modification, the wizard will only recognize commands in the selected language.
Depending on the language version you choose, the voice of Google Home will adapt to the tone of the selected region. Google will be able to recognize the commands more easily if you use the chosen accent.
