TV mounts do such a good job that taking them apart seems like a big challenge. While you can call a professional, you can also do it yourself without any problems. Brackets consist of a couple of pieces that are assembled together and sometimes secured with a safety clasp. By removing these components, you can freely take your TV wherever you need to go.

Steps

Part 1 of 3: Prepare to remove the TV

Step 1. Disconnect all cables attached to the TV

Cables are always ready to trip, so take care of them before moving your precious TV. Remove the power cord from the wall without forgetting all the accessories. Remember to disconnect all cables from your video game console, video players and any other accessories; it is best to put them at the other end of the room just in case.

Step 2. Remove all the padlocks from the bracket

Many do not have padlocks. If yours is one of those, you could have other types of insurance. Keep the user manual handy so you don't have any complaints about the theft protection. Look carefully for any signs of insurance. Some require a special key that comes in the package, while others have tabs or sliders that you can remove with your fingers.

Step 3. Load the TV from the bottom if possible

Hold the TV by the sides and try to tilt the bottom forward. The TV hooks onto the top beam of the bracket, so don't worry, it won't fall on you. Instead, you will be able to see the back of the TV and place your hand behind it. If the TV won't move, don't force it.

If it does not move, it is because it has padlocks or is fixed with screws

Step 4. Locate the screws or pull the laces

Depending on the type of support you have, the TV will be fixed to the beam of the wall by screws or cords. The good news is that they are not difficult to locate or disassemble. With the bottom of the TV tilted forward, you will have no problem finding these components. If you don't see a string hanging down the sides of the bracket, you will know right away that you are going to need a screwdriver.

Step 1. Unscrew the mounting hardware

Different TV sizes use different screw sizes, so you'll have to do a bit of trial and error here. An adjustable electric screwdriver will help a bit with the difficulties. You will have to twist your hand a little to place the screwdriver behind the TV. The fasteners will be under or to the sides of the support, depending on the model.

Step 2. Pull the strings off the bracket

Models that have laces are secured with a spring lock. As you pull the laces, you will hear the locks disengage. You will have to prevent the insurance from activating. Ideally, you should find someone to help you or it will be difficult for you to pull both laces on your own.

Step 3. Slightly separate the TV from the wall

If you don't have someone to hold the TV, you will have to improvise a shoe with some household items. All you will need is a bit of clearance to prevent the locks from re-engaging. Pull the cord on one side and move the TV away from the wall a bit. Place the objects to maintain the separation you made and continue. If you do it right you will not hear the locks hook, now repeat this with the missing side.

Movie and video game boxes work great as makeshift shoes, but you can use whatever you have on hand

Step 4. Remove the TV from the bracket

Now the only brake is the top of the bracket. Find someone to help you charge the TV. Each take one of the extremes. Count to three and lift the television off the stand. Soon it will come out and you can put it on the ground.

Step 1. Turn the TV upside down

Move it until it is secure on the ground. For this, clean a flat place well and place a soft towel or a clean blanket. It would be a shame to have gone so far just to scratch the screen.

Step 2. Unscrew the missing bracket piece

So far you have managed to disassemble and protect your TV, but part of the bracket is still attached to it. Luckily, this is easier than putting down the TV. No matter the shape of the bracket piece, it will be attached with four screws.

Step 3. Unscrew the bracket piece from the wall

Without the TV, the other piece looks like an empty frame. If you decide to remove it, take it apart just like you did with the rest. These screws should not offer resistance, so remove them along with the bracket piece.

You will need to

  • screwdriver
  • objects that you can use as shoes
  • clean coverlet
