This wikiHow teaches you how to add an "In Case of Emergency" (ECE) contact to an iPhone or Android phone. You can do this using the "Health" application built into the iPhone or an application called "QuickICE" on an Android. On Samsung Galaxy phones, you can use the built-in "Contacts" application to assign emergency contacts to display on the lock screen.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: On iPhone

Step 1. Open the "Settings"

of the iPhone.
Tap the app with a gear. You will usually find the Settings on the home screen.

Step 2. Scroll down and tap Emergency SOS
It's in the third group of options on the "Settings" page.

Step 3. Tap Set up emergency contacts in Health
It's at the bottom of the screen.

Step 4. Touch Create Medical ID
It's in the center of the page.

Step 5. Make sure the "Show when locked" switch is green

This option is at the top of the screen. In case the switch is not green, tap it to activate it before continuing.

Step 6. Scroll down and tap Add Emergency Contact
You will find it at the bottom of the screen.

Step 7. Select a contact
Scroll to the contact you want to add as an emergency contact, and then tap their name.
The contact you choose should have a phone number on your phone and not a Facebook profile (or something similar)

Step 8. Select a relationship when prompted
Tap a relationship type (for example, mother, partner, etc.). You may have to scroll down to find the one you want to use.

Step 9. Touch Done
It's in the upper-right corner of the screen. Doing so will save the emergency contact.
- By default in iOS 11, you can access the "SOS Emergency" menu by quickly clicking the "Lock" button five times in a row. Then slide the switch Medical ID on the right to open the "Medical ID" page, which will include the ECE contact.
Method 2 of 3: On Android

Step 1. Download QuickICE
Not all Android devices will have the option to add an emergency contact, but you can use an application called "QuickICE" to set up ECE contacts and access them from the lock screen. To download the app:
- open a web browser on Android;
- go to the QuickICE page;
- touches OPEN IN PLAY STORE.;
- touches INSTALL;
- touches TO ACCEPT.

Step 2. Open QuickICE
Touch TO OPEN in the Google Play Store, or tap the "QuickICE" snowflake icon in the Android app organizer.

Step 3. Tap →
It's in the lower-right corner of the screen.

Step 4. Tap Allow when prompted
It will allow "QuickICE" to access the "Contacts" and "Phone" applications.

Step 5. Tap the "Contacts" icon
It's the icon with the silhouette of a person in the lower-right corner of the screen. A pop-up menu will appear.

Step 6. Tap Import from Contacts
This option is at the top of the pop-up group of options.

Step 7. Select a contact
Scroll to the contact you want to add as an emergency contact, and then tap their name.

Step 8. Add "QuickICE" to the Android lock screen
To do it:
- swipe the screen down twice;
- touches
Android7edit ;
- scroll down to the icon ICE ("ECE");
- tap and drag ICE to the dark section of the menu at the top of the screen.
Method 3 of 3: On Samsung Galaxy

Step 1. Open the "Contacts" application
Open the "Contacts" application that will come pre-installed on your Samsung Galaxy phone.
This can only be done with the Samsung "Contacts" application. You can download it from the Galaxy app store

Step 2. Touch ⋮
It's in the upper-right part of the screen. A drop-down menu will open.

Step 3. Touch Groups
It's the first option in the drop-down menu.

Step 4. Touch ECE - Emergency Contacts
It is the first group at the top.

Step 5. Touch EDIT
It's at the top of the screen.

Step 6. Touch + Add Member

Step 7. Touch all the contacts you want to add
When you select a contact, a check mark will appear over the contact's profile picture and that contact's name will appear at the top.
Touch - next to a contact's name at the top to remove it from the ECE group

Step 8. Touch DONE
It's in the upper-right part of the screen.

Step 9. Touch SAVE
It's in the upper-right part of the screen.

Step 10. Double tap

to return to the main contacts page.
