If you use your laptop for activities that require a lot of processor use, such as games or graphic design, or your programs tend to hang frequently, then you need a cooling stand. You can create your own stand out of a few simple materials to keep your computer safe and cool.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Take Your Measurements

Step 1. Measure the length and width of your laptop
Write down the measurements for your reference.
Method 2 of 4: Cut the Wood

Step 1. Cut the wood to size
- Cut it so that it is slightly larger than the dimensions of your laptop. Add about 2 cm on each side for a little extra space. The wood should be about an inch thick.
- Measure the wood after cutting it. Adjust the measurements if necessary.

Step 2. Drill the holes
Make sure they are spaced 2 centimeters apart in a square pattern on the board. You should be able to put a pencil through the holes, but not too large.
- If you have serious overheating problems, drill the holes fairly close.
- You will also need to buy fans and plug them into each hole. Alternatively, you can take apart something that already has a fan that you don't need.

Step 3. Sand any rough edges to avoid chips
Method 3 of 4: Add Legs

Step 1. If your laptop doesn't have “legs” underneath (lifters), attach something to help lift the stand and the laptop a bit
This is important to ensure good air circulation.
- The image shows the use of wood to make the legs. It is a great way to recycle wood.
- Alternatively, you can buy small plastic or rubber legs at the hardware store. Anti-slip designs work best.
Method 4 of 4: Decorate the stand

Step 1. Vacuum lightly on the board
This will prevent any wood particles from being sucked into your computer's fan. Screw the fans under the board. Make sure they are attached to the holes you created.

Step 2. Customize your stand by painting it the way you want
If you're not very artistic, use a paint that matches your laptop. If the wood is good enough (not plywood), you can use a good wood stain.

Step 3. You are done
From now on place your laptop on the stand to keep it cooler when you use it.
