This wikiHow teaches you how to remove a channel from a Slack group. You can remove a channel by deleting it, which can only be done on a computer, or by archiving it, which is possible on both desktop and mobile platforms.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Delete a channel

Step 1. Open Slack
Click or double-click the Slack application icon, which looks like a "#" sign on a white background, on your computer. This will open your main Slack group if you are signed in.
- If you're not signed in, enter your Slack channel name, email address, and login password before continuing.
- You can also open Slack on your computer by going to https://www.slack.com/ in your computer's web browser.

Step 2. Select a channel
On the left side of the window, click the name of the channel you want to remove.

Step 3. Click on the "Settings" icon

It's a gear-shaped icon at the top of the window. Clicking it will open a drop-down menu.

Step 4. Click More Options…
This option is in the drop-down menu.

Step 5. Click Remove this channel
It's at the bottom of the window.

Step 6. Check the box "Yes, delete this channel permanently"
You'll find it near the middle of the page.

Step 7. Click Remove Channel
It's on the right side of the page. Doing so will remove the channel from your Slack group.
Method 2 of 3: Archive to a computer

Step 1. Open Slack
Click or double-click the Slack application icon, which looks like a "#" sign on a white background, on your computer. This will open your main Slack group if you are signed in.
- If you're not signed in, enter your Slack channel name, email address, and login password before continuing.
- You can also open Slack on your computer by going to https://www.slack.com/ in your computer's web browser.

Step 2. Select a channel
Click the name of the channel you want to archive on the left side of the page.

Step 3. Click on the "Settings" icon

It's a gear-shaped button at the top of the channel page. A drop-down menu will appear.

Step 4. Click More Options…
This option is in the drop-down menu.

Step 5. Click Archive this channel
It's at the top of the page.

Step 6. Click Yes, archive the channel
It's a green button in the middle of the page. Doing so will remove and archive the channel. Although you will still be able to view the content of the channel, you will not be able to chat on the channel.
Method 3 of 3: Archive on mobile

Step 1. Open Slack
Press the Slack app icon, which looks like a black "S" on a multi-colored background. Doing so will open your main Slack group if you're signed in.
If you're not signed in, enter your Slack channel name, email address, and login password before continuing

Step 2. Press the Slack icon
It's in the upper-left corner of the screen. Doing so will open a pop-up menu with your different channels.

Step 3. Select a channel
Tap the name of the channel you want to archive. This will open the channel.

Step 4. Tap the name of the channel
It's a title that's at the top of the screen. A menu will appear.

Step 5. Press Archive
This option is near the bottom of the menu. Doing so will remove and archive the channel. Although you will still be able to view the content of the channel, you will not be able to chat on the channel.
- On Android, you will have to press FILE when asked to confirm this decision.
- If you are the only participant in the channel, you may have to press Exit and archive twice on an iPhone.
