The Wall Street Journal is famous for being strict about who has access to its articles. Therefore, it is very difficult to read them without a paid subscription. However, there are ways to find articles, such as clicking links on social media or signing up for a free trial.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Use a reader app or extension
Step 1. Download an application or extension to read newspapers
Some mobile apps or browser extensions offer free access to the articles. One of them is called Read Across The Aisle and is available on iOS or the Google Chrome browser for computer.
- For iOS, look for it in the app store.
- If it is with Chrome, open a new page and click on the applications tab in the upper left corner of the screen to enter the web store.
Step 2. Open the application or extension
On an Apple device, all you have to do is press the icon after it finishes installing. In the case of Chrome, open a new tab, which will show you information about the news web pages you have visited.
If you don't see this information when opening a new tab in Chrome, disable the ad blocker from your antivirus or from the list of browser extensions
Step 3. Click on the Wall Street Journal link
Find the words "Wall Street Journal" prominently displayed on the page. Press or click the link to take you to the WSJ website.
Step 4. Enter your email
You will not be able to access the website until you subscribe to a 7-day trial pass. All you have to do is enter your email. As soon as you do, the page will open and you can navigate to the article you want.
Step 5. Renew your trial subscription every 7 days
This part can be a bit annoying, but after this time the trial period will be over. When you enter the page, the notice requested by the email will appear again. Enter it to receive another trial period. Through the application, you can renew it every time you run out.
Method 2 of 3: Read it through a library
Step 1. Find a nearby library that is associated with the WSJ
Some libraries offer free access to the content of certain publications. Find out what online resources your library offers. If it gives you access to periodicals, it will most likely include articles from the WSJ.
Step 2. Visit the library to access the Wall Street Journal
Most likely, there are restrictions on using this resource unless you are inside the library. Use whatever computer you have, as they are the only verified devices to access the articles.
Some libraries still receive the print version of the publication, so look in the newspaper section even if the one in your area does not offer the resource online
Step 3. Browse the library's online resources to enter
Type "Wall Street Journal" in the search bar on the library page or go to the online resources section. Scroll through the entire page until you find a link to the WSJ page or an archived issue to start reading the articles.
You may need to ask staff for a library card and use it to log into their website, depending on their policies. Ask the librarians if you have any questions
Method 3 of 3: Find Links to Articles on Social Media
Step 1. Follow WSJ reporters on Twitter to read free articles
To find them, search for “WSJ staff” on Twitter or some other social network. After searching, click on the “People” tab at the top of the page to find some official profiles of WSJ workers. They sometimes post links to articles that you can click to read for free.
These links are for one article only. You will not be able to go to another unless you find a link that leads you to it
Step 2. Have a WSJ subscriber send you article links
If you know someone who is a subscriber to this newspaper, they will be able to provide you with access to the articles. Ask him to send you the one you would like to read. After clicking it, you can read the linked article for free.
Step 3. Track news posted on social media
It is possible for a reader to post the link to an article on social media. On Twitter, search for WSJ and click on the "News" tab at the top of the page. You will see a list of recent posts on WSJ articles. Click on a post to take you to the article on the Wall Street Journal page.
For other sites, like Facebook, search with WSJ or the names of their reporters
Step 4. Find the WSJ account on Snapchat
First, download this application on your mobile device. Login to your account and then type "Wall Street Journal" in the search bar. You will see their account along with a quick notice. Go to the end of the story to get the link to the article. This only works with the ones that are posted on Snapchat.
