Reading has always been an important part of learning and an enjoyable hobby. Reading nooks provide quiet, comfortable places to isolate yourself and snuggle up with a good book. However, these corners are not just for reading. A corner is also great for drawing, writing, or listening to music. A reading corner is the perfect way to reserve a peaceful place in your room.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Create a Reading Corner

Step 1. Find a good spot for your corner, such as a corner, nook, or box
You may need to rearrange the furniture in your room. Doing so will open up spaces that can be potential good corners. Choose a space that is as quiet as possible. You don't want to hear loud noises (like a radio or television) disturbing your little peaceful haven.

Step 2. Decide what kind of seat you want to use
Want a great soft chair that you can sink into? Do you want a chair that you can snuggle in? Do you prefer several pillows on the floor or a pouf? Do you want a woven bench that you can also use as a coffee table and ottoman?

Step 3. Illuminate your space with light
Having abundant light is the perfect way to take advantage of the inspirational moments that may appear as you read. Find a light that strikes a balance between your lighting needs and your comfort level.
- For daytime reading, there is nothing better than glorious daylight. If it is too bright, pull the curtains to prevent sunlight from falling directly on your reading material.
- For reading at night, a simple lamp will suffice, as long as it is adjustable. Another option is to buy a desk or floor lamp.

Step 4. Make it a comfortable place
The most important part of a reading corner is comfort. It should be something that you like and that encourages you to snuggle into it over and over again. Think about the smoothness and textures that you enjoy. Don't wear anything that you don't like or that gives you a feeling of disgust.
- Surround yourself with things that make you feel as comfortable as possible, like a plush cushion or soft pillows.
- Use colors, patterns, and textures that make you feel safe and warm.

Step 5. If possible, isolate the reading corner from other parts of the room
This can be as simple as placing a low sideboard perpendicular to a wall to give the impression of division, or it can be as complicated as hanging the curtains around the corner to create a canopy of sorts. The division will give you a sense of possession of the corner and will prevent others from invading your private space.
- Treat your corner like a hideaway and keep a snack nearby that's tasty and sweet, like cheddar popcorn with caramel corn. Disconnect from everything and do not bring telephones or electronic devices to this quiet place.
- Surround yourself and your personal refuge with sweet scents. Buy a candle with a seasonal theme and place it in your corner so you can relax more.
Method 2 of 3: Create a Canopy Corner

Step 1. Begin by making the canopy by disassembling an embroidery hoop
The perfect size for an embroidery hoop is approximately 23 inches (60 centimeters) and can be found at any local store that sells crafts. Take the hoop apart and place its metal pieces in a plastic bag to prevent them from getting lost while you build the canopy.

Step 2. Slide the curtain fabric into the embroidery hoop
Make sure the seam of the wrap at the top of the curtains faces the hoop on the inside. Slide the six curtain panels around the circumference of the hoop.

Step 3. Secure the hoop again
Secure the two ends of the embroidery hoop by inserting the metal pieces that you previously placed in the plastic bag. Slide the curtains over the hoop closure and make sure the curtains are evenly distributed around the circumference of the hoop.

Step 4. Prepare the ribbons that will hang from the canopy
Cut three pieces of ribbon about 4 inches long so that the hoop can hang a good distance from the ceiling. If you want the canopy to hang lower than the ceiling, cut the pieces of tape slightly longer.
- Spread the curtains and tie the ribbons around the sides of the hoop.
- The ribbons should be knotted to the hoop every other panel so that the curtains are even on each side and the access points are seen more clearly.
- Tie the ribbons at the top with a knot.

Step 5. Hang a hook from the ceiling and use it to hang the canopy on it
You can find hooks at most home improvement stores. Hang the knotted ribbon and canopy curtains on the hook from the ceiling. Separate two panels to create a door.
- Add pillows to your finished canopy or stuffed animals to give your reading nook some personality.
- These reading nooks can also double as tents around small armchairs in children's rooms and nurseries and can be perfect places to read for your child while lying on your lap.
Method 3 of 3: Create a Nook in a Closet

Step 1. Make sure the closet is suitable for creating the corner
If your room is too narrow to accommodate a canopy corner, a closet corner is a good alternative. Your closet should be a good size, a good location, and its use should be optional.

Step 2. Prepare your closet to create the corner
Take things out of the closet, remove the shelves, wash the walls and vacuum the floors. Make a base to build a plywood bench, using bolts to secure the seat to the joists.

Step 3. Build some texture in your reading corner
Install 1x4 pine lumber as panels that are ¾ the height of the wall. On the right side of the closet, install two of the 1x4 planks on the right side of the closet as two floating shelves. Attach the wood to the cabinet with a strong glue or finishing nails.

Step 4. Pick a color theme for your corner
Paint the remaining space (1/4) on top of the paneled section the color of your choice. Paint the wood with wood stain to preserve it and give it a more polished look. Paint the shelves, edges, and bench white.

Step 5. Add touches to make the space special
Place a pillow, warm blanket, and cushions on the bench for comfort inside the corner. Put some books on the shelves you have installed and some books in a couple of wicker baskets for decorative purposes.
- For children's corners, consider using different toys to decorate the space. Includes stuffed animals, toy cars, a flashlight, etc.
- Create themes centered around your favorite novels to contribute to the theme of the reading. Include capes or wands if you're a Harry Potter fan or a Narnia arrangement with a snow-white palette and a stuffed lion.
Advice
- Hang an interesting sign on the door or on a wall hook that says "Sorry, I'm busy" or something clever that hints at reading. This will let people know that you want silence and not to be disturbed.
- Use your creativity to think of fun topics and things that help to further personalize your reading corner.
- You can buy comfortable chairs and nightstands cheaply at Goodwill or other thrift stores. Large chairs are great for reading purposes. You can usually buy large pillows from the same kinds of stores.
- Use colors like white, blue, and green for your cushions to maintain a calm and relaxing environment.
- If you can read while listening to music, consider buying some soft music from gift shops (for example, the sound of running water or the sounds of the rainforest).
- Consider using a hanging chair. Attach it to the ceiling beam (with screws). It will allow you to snuggle into a small space. Make sure you have the necessary light.
- Have a footstool nearby to put your feet up. Always make yourself comfortable before enjoying the book so that you can stay motivated to read.
