Step 1. Consider your interests first
You are likely to excel in college if you are going to study something you love.
Step 2. Consider your priorities
Do you want to earn a lot of money? Do you want to do something creative? Do you want to help the community? Whatever your goals, there is a career that is right for you. But you need to first think about what your goals are.
Step 3. Research the job market
If your first priority is to find a job quickly after graduation, then researching the job market may help. This way, you'll know which jobs are in high demand, giving you more options. Looking at the year 2011, jobs in manufacturing, agriculture, business, energy, and certain areas of healthcare are in high demand.
Step 4. Review what the resume is like
Most college websites have classes listed somewhere that are needed for a particular career. They are generally under the label called "Academics."
Step 5. Talk to people you know who are already studying that career or who have graduated from the career that interests you

Step 6. Talk to the school tutors
You can find a lot of information about the different careers on the website, but it is better to basically talk with a professional tutor. They can help you with any questions you may have about the department you are considering joining.

If you are not 100% sure, don't worry. You always have the option to change careers. Usually, most of the classes you complete in the first two years are general studies anyway. So if you start out with a career in English Literature, but later determine that you want to focus on Business Administration, that's fine.

- Ask yourself "Where do I see myself in 5 years?" If you have an idea of where you want to be, then you can figure out how to get there. And that's what choosing a college degree will help you do.
- Remember that if you want to change your mind, you can. Many college students change careers. It is part of the process.
- Take your time. If you are not sure what career you want to pursue or even if you want to go to college, then take a little time. Otherwise, you could end up wasting a lot of time and money on an education you don't need.
- Convert it. Talk to your family and friends about what you are thinking of doing. They may give you some good advice and insight.
